From God to David:
I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you. Now I will make your name great, like the names of the greatest men on earth.
2 Samuel 7:9 NIV
And then from David’s prayer to God:
25 “And now, Lord God, keep forever the promise you have made concerning your servant and his house. Do as you promised, 26 so that your name will be great forever. Then people will say, ‘The Lord Almighty is God over Israel!’ And the house of your servant David will be established in your sight.
2 Samuel 7:25-26 NIV
Wow, what a beautiful exchange between God and David. We’ve seen the miracles and things that God has done over and for David and his men. God cut off all of David’s enemies. God pulls off David from pasturing sheep. God takes him while he’s young.
And yet God isn’t stopping there. He promises to make David’s name great. He promises a great future not only for him but for all of his descendants.
How did David respond? HUMILITY.
He allows himself to be an instrument of God’s work. He asks for his house to be blessed. He does it so God’s name will be great forever. Everything he does is for God. Jacob’s head doesn’t swell for each victory he gets. Instead, he continues to dedicate victories to God.
I want to be like David!
